Creating and Devising Acting Course
(in-person)

Course Overview

Do you have an idea that’s nagging at you? Perhaps it’s already in motion, or at the back of a drawer.

Sometimes it’s hard to give time and space to develop our ideas, to find the freedom to let them grow. This intensive on-site 4 day course can help. Designed to offer tools and techniques in devising and creating, the course aims to help actors become content creators, devisors, and theatre makers of their own work. At a time when industry is crying out for new voices and new work this course offers you a valuable fun opportunity to stretch your creative muscles and release the potential of your own work.

What will I have learnt by the end of the course?

We aim to help actors become makers and creators of their own work. Using techniques and tools including improvisational based workshops that are designed to help with devising and creating. The course will help to develop new ideas and refine existing ideas, giving participants a clearer understanding of how to take an idea to the next stage.

Who is it aimed at?

Actors, performers, directors, and writers keen to become content creators, devisors, and makers of their own work. At a time when industry is crying out for new voices and new work this course offers a valuable opportunity to stretch creative muscles and release the potential of one’s own work.

Who is teaching me?

The course is led by experienced actor, improviser, writer and OSD Tutor Niall Ashdown. Drawing on his improvisational work at London’s Comedy Store, his writing experience for radio, theatre and poetry, and collaborations with pioneering theatre companies such as Improbable, Kneehigh and Told by an Idiot, Niall will help you discover just what’s possible over a fun 4 day course in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside.

What do I need to bring with me?

As the work is practical and will include improvisational exercises and physical exercises, it is recommended participants wear loose fitting clothes that they can move in and are comfortable in.
