Unlocking... Screen Acting
(in-person)
Course Overview
This popular in-person, intensive 4 day Screen Acting Course introduces students to the challenges an actor faces working in film and television (both established and novice). The sessions are packed with information, advice, tips and practical camera based acting exercises that aims to demystify the filming process, enabling actors to feel more confident and relaxed on camera and will include a professional camera person in addition to an experienced director/tutor.
What will I have learnt by the end of the course?
The Screen Acting Course will look at acting in film and television and include casting for screen, Self-tape, finding work, how to approach a script, shooting short scenes, developing new acting techniques, adapting existing skills, dealing with technical pressures, set dynamics and identifying ‘bad habits’. You’ll gain an understanding of the overall production process, and explore techniques and craft that will deepen your screen acting skills and understanding.
This intensive film and television acting course will feature professional equipment and playback facilities. This will enable students to experience the shooting environment through “mock shoots” and analyse their progression throughout.
Who is it aimed at?
It is an in-person practical short course aimed at those looking to gain more confidence in acting on camera. It would suit the novice actor or equally the experienced stage actor with limited screen experience. Past participants on this course have also included screen actors wishing to develop their screen acting craft in order to take on more challenging screen roles. It is open to anyone age 18+ and limited to 16 participants, so early application is advised.
Who is teaching me?
The tutors are all experienced tutors who teach at The Oxford School of Drama and will include Edward Hicks (Principal) and a professional camera person.
What do I need to bring with me?
Energy, a commitment to learn, a willingness to have fun, and a packed lunch!

If you plan to book accommodation, we advise looking at Woodstock and the areas that surround the school. Click here for directions to School. Please email us if you have any questions.
