Rehearsals are underway in London for our final public performance of the academic year, Nostos: After The Odyssey. Commissioned by OSD as part of our New Writing Programme, this play has been written specifically with our graduates in mind. The current One Year Course cohort has been involved in development workshops with the writer Georgia Bruce and director Scott Le Crass across the academic year, and they’re now fully in the flow of rehearsals.

The rehearsal and performance period forms part of OSD’s annual London Season, which sees graduating students relocate to London for their final term of training, signalling their transition from actors-in-training to professionals.

You may have seen our blog earlier in the year announcing Georgia and Scott as the New Writing duo for this project, but we’re now able to reveal more about Nostos: After The Odyssey, and take you inside rehearsals with brand new images straight from the rehearsal room.

Sometimes what happens after the epic is just as epic

Odysseus has returned from war. Penelope has been waiting. The homecoming neither of them imagined is about to unfold. Nostos: After The Odyssey is a bold, funny, and emotionally charged reimagining of Homer’s epic, exploring what happens after the hero returns when the woman who held everything together starts to come undone.

Who are we when the war is over? What does “home” really mean? Can love survive the weight of legend? As fractured realities and shifting identities unfold, Nostos confronts questions of loyalty, trauma and whether it’s possible to reclaim a past that’s long since turned to myth.

Georgia Bruce has written a wonderful play full of nuanced relationships and complex characters, and we’re sure our One Year Course will, under Scott’s direction, take the play and make something truly exciting.

We’re excited to give you an exclusive sneak peek at the Director’s Note from the show programme, where director Scott Le Crass gives some insight into the show’s themes and ideas.
