OSD are thrilled to announce the team behind the first of our 2024 New Writing commissions.
Emily Aboud and Louis Rembges will be working with our Third-Year students to produce a completely new script to be performed at London’s New Diorama Theatre.
Emily Aboud is a Trinidadian theatre director whose work draws inspiration from the political community theatre she grew up making in Trinidad. Combining a dynamic mix of music, movement, audience address and theatricality, Emily’s credits include: Haemosporidian (Lyric Hammersmith), SPLINTERED (Soho Theatre Mainhouse, as writer and director), and Flip! (Regional Tour and Soho Theatre). She was shortlisted for both the RTST Peter Hall Award 2023, and the JMK Award in both 2022 and 2021, as well as being the recipient of the Evening Standard Future Theatre Award in 2023. This won’t be her first time collaborating with Louis, as she directed his one-man show Chatham House Rules (Pleasance Theatre) in 2023.
Louis Rembges is a London-based, Sheffiled-born writer and performer and alumni of the Royal Court’s Intro to Playwriting Group. Winner of the BOLD Playwriting Prize in 2023, his credits include the critically acclaimed and OFFIE-nominated Chatham House Rules as writer-performer, and On Railton Road which completed a sold-out three week run at London’s Museum of the Home in November. He is currently developing Chatham House Rules into a feature film with Killer Films, the production company behind Oscar-nominated features Past Lives and May December, Deviso Pictures and Film4.
A key component of the training here at OSD is to bring our students together with young writers and directors to workshop and develop new work that will then be performed during their final term with us. These projects are incredibly valuable for our students, and form part of the larger networking and professional development elements of their training. We are excited to welcome Louis and Emily into the OSD family and can’t wait to see what they will create with our Third-Year students.
