Step into the world of William Shakespeare in this intimate and immersive 4-day masterclass. Whether you are a seasoned performer or a complete beginner, the course will give you the tools to bring Shakespeare’s words vividly to life. Surrounded by the nature of the Cotswolds, explore the richness of Shakespeare’s language, the depth of his characters, and the timeless relevance of his stories.

What will I have learnt by the end of the course?

This is an intensive short course aimed at those looking to find joy and confidence in performing verse and poetic text. Designed to liberate your capacity to understand, play with and revel in the challenges of Shakespeare’s texts. The course will help you unlock the magic of Shakespeare. We aim to equip you with tools to fully explore the language, unlock creative possibilities, and delve into character analysis. You’ll build confidence and refine your performance skills through rehearsal workshops and supportive feedback. This course will transform your approach to Shakespeare and empower you to bring these iconic characters to life.

Who is it aimed at?

This is an in-person, practical short course aimed at anyone looking to deepen their practical knowledge of Shakespeare’s language and characters and gain confidence in performing Shakespeare’s texts. Applicants must be 18+, and the course is limited to 16 applicants, so early application is advised.  

Who is teaching me?

Unlocking Shakespeare will be taught by Nia Gwynne. Nia trained at RADA and has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. Her theatre credits include Goneril in King Lear, Tamora in Titus Andronicus, Apemantus in Timon of Athens and Doll Tearsheet in Henry IV all for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Film and TV credits include the BAFTA winning films Pride and Darkest Hour and for TV The Long Call and The Jury. Nia is excited to help you on your journey to find depth, nuance, and connection within Shakespeare’s text. 

What do I need to bring with me?

Energy, a commitment to learn, a willingness to have fun, and a packed lunch!

If you are new to OSD, please note the School’s remote location. There is no public transport that serves the school. We do have parking facilities on site, but for those who may travel by train, we recommend booking a taxi to take you to the school. 

There are no shops within walking distance of the school so we would recommend you bring a packed lunch with you for each day. The school has tea and coffee-making facilities, microwaves, and fridges for your use.
