Women in Power is based on Assemblywomen by Aristophanes.
The production is set in 350 BC Athens where there is political turmoil and recent wars and alliances have left Athenians no option but to take radical action: a government of women! Women storm the Assembly, dressed as men, big fake beards, big shoes and a big vision – total equality! A world where power imbalance is eradicated and with it debt, greed and theft. But this has unintended and hilarious consequences…
Women in Power has a highly acclaimed writing team of Wendy Cope, Jenny Éclair, Suhayala El-Bushra, Natalie Haynes, Shappi Khorsandi, Jess Phillips and Brona C Titley, with music by Tim Sutton. It is produced by Nuffield Southampton Theatres in association with Oxford Playhouse and has been cast by OSDgrad Annelie Powell.
Lydia has starred as regular in many TV series, including I Live with Models, Drifters, The Royals and Plebs.
Women in Power plays at Oxford Playhouse from Wednesday 3 – Saturday 6 October.
